It’s that time of year again when the supermarket aisles start filling up with Halloween themed sweets, dressing up outfits and decorations again, although with everything going on at the moment, we’re left wondering if the usual traditions of October 31st - ‘doorstop trick or treating’ or ‘apple bobbing’ will be able to go ahead at all? 😬
So I’ve compiled a small list of things to do locally in our area with kids this October half term. Please do check events for any changes due to Governments covid restrictions and guidelines changing constantly, some of the info below may have changed after writing this list. Most of these events below require advance booking. If anyone knows of anything else local, give me a shout and I’ll add to the list!
In Wellington you can pick up a Halloween styled scavenger hunt at Wellington Print and walk around the streets during half term to spot different spooky things on the list.
If you prefer a day in, check out my daughters Halloween themed craft activities download 🧡
Pumpkin picking at Thurloxton Pumpkin Patch - £8.75 if you’d like to pick your own pumpkin and join in the games. 🎃
Halloween at the Taunton Museum - Put on your scary costumes and go exploring Taunton Castle at the spookiest time of the year. When the children arrive they will make a lantern to illuminate their way around the darkened museum, hunting for ghosts. At the end of the visit, they knock on the door to the castle lock up and if they’ve spotted all the ghosts they get a treat! 🍬
Pumpkin carving for £4.99 and a pumpkin trail treasure hunt £1 at Monkton Elm Garden Centre .🧡
Free entry for all visitors who bring along a pumpkin at Fearne Animal Sanctuary for their first Halloween festival! Join in on the black cat and bat trail, spooky games, carve your own pumpkin and build your own scarecrow competition. 🙀
Visit Wookey Hole caves for some Halloween fun including the infamous witch in her halloween grotto with a bubbling cauldron, a new ghost train, a ghoulish penny arcade and much more 🧙♀️ Between £8-£10 per ticket.
If you’re already National trust members then a visit to Dunster castle to do the spooky trail around the garden for £2.50 per child. 🏰
Visit the cliff railway at night with it’s zombie drivers at Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff railway with creepy tales and even a Halloween fancy dress disco at the cliff top cafe. 🧟♂️
Dress up for some Halloween fun for a spooky walk around Canonteign Falls and enter the fancy dress selfie competition! 👻
A Halloween trail to solve the mystery of Mildred’s disappearance at Hestercombe Gardens £2 plus usual admission costs. 🧟♀️
More pumpkin picking and a witch’s afternoon tea (which looks amazing) at Farrington’s farm. 🎃
If you live in Wellington, (I’m sure other towns will also be doing this) someone started a Facebook group to do something similar with the rainbow pictures we did in lockdown, although this time it’s getting your child(ren) to draw something Halloween related and then local children have to find them in their nearby streets to get a sweet in their bucket (that we provide instead of trick or treating) 🍭
Hope this has helped with a few spooky fun ideas to do with your children over the half term.
Have fun and stay safe! 👻 Karen x
